Serpa

Inhabited since ancient times, Serpa has always had a large Roman and Arabic influence. It was conquered from the Moors by D. Afonso Henriques in 1166, having been lost several times during the Reconquista battles. It was definitively established as a municipality in 1295 by D. Dinis who had Serpa surrounded by long walls.

Due to its extensive history, Serpa has several points of interest to visit, including the Castle, the walls and the gate of Beja, the Clock Tower, the 17th century aqueduct, the Church of Santa Maria and the Palace of the Counts of Ficalho (16th century).
