Rota-âncora (the anchor route)

The “Lynx Territories” Route provides an experience to the only region inhabited by free Iberian lynx in Portugal.

A public road route through the areas of occurrence of the feline in Vale do Guadiana is recommended, as well as walking routes of the surrounding landscape whose potential is high to what concerns sighting these species.

Support facilities are available to visitors, such as the Interpretation Centre in Amendoeira da Serra, the Observatory in São João dos Caldeireiros and the Exhibition “Sharing Territories: The Lynx Return” in the main office of PNVG. There are also additional features to the visit that are available 24 hours a day, such as an interactive kiosk in the centre of Mértola or information boards spread throughout the territory.
