The geological formation of Pulo do Lobo was formed by a strong resistance against a wave of regressive erosion. As a result, you can find the largest waterfall of the Guadiana River, about 14 meters high, in this location. You can also find Pego dos Sáveis here, where some of the migratory fish species come to spawn due to the rising sea levels since, during flood times, the stream is low.
It is also home to and breeds the black stork (Ciconia nigra), the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) and the Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo), as well as many other endangered species. In the surrounding area, the Mediterranean scrublands fill the air with colours and odours.
