A town built in the nineteenth century, where the ore extracted from the mines of São Domingos was loaded into large cargo ships in way to England, Germany and other countries. Built on many consecutive levels, with small mud buildings, the mining town – marked by the colours and elements of traditional Alentejo architecture – is nowadays a fishing village. It preserves the remains of the pier and the mining facilities. It currently serves the purpose of a fishing and leisure port given its beautiful landscape on the banks of the Guadiana River.
