Azinheira Secular do Monte do Barbeiro
The 150-year-old holm oak is located in the parish of Alcaria Ruiva, in Mértola. It is known for its impressive size in the vastness of the Alentejo plain. It won the online voting competition for Árvore Portuguesa in 2019. This holm oak represents a unique Mediterranean agroforestry production system, which contributes to biodiversity, climate change mitigation and the fight against desertification.
